Land Use Classification


The Chief Directorate, Spatial Planning and Information, initiated a project to develop a National Land Use Classification Standard for South Africa. The project was divided into three phases:

2012   Consultation with various governing agencies and official stakeholders

2013   Development of an interim framework for Land Use Classification

2014   Development of a National Land Use Classification Standard for South Africa

Agizo’s appointment was the second phase. Required was a group to lead various working groups that were tasked to conduct further research and analysis of the existing land use classification system in order to develop an interim framework for the national land use classification standard methodology and symbology for South Africa (Framework Working Group).
